Bio

 

Sherry Appleton is a 26-year resident of Poulsbo.  Sherry served eight years on the Poulsbo City Council.   Appointed by President Bush in 1992, Sherry served as a Commissioner with the Washington State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights and was a former commissioner on the Commission on Judicial Conduct.  Sherry is now a Commissioner on the Sentencing Guidelines Commission and co-chair of the Juvenile Sentencing Subcommittee.

During her career, Sherry has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Washington Cities, on the Northwest Women’s Law Center Legislative Committee, PAC chair of the NARAL PAC, board member of NARAL, and vice-chair of the State Women’s Political Caucus.  In addition, she was elected in 2000, to represent the 1st commissioner district as a freeholder and serve with 20 other elected freeholders to review the Kitsap County Charter.  

Sherry was a lobbyist in Olympia for eleven years.  She worked on many policy issues from criminal justice to health care to education and transportation.  She helped to pass the patients’ bill of rights, and has been involved in negotiations at every level on the many issues that effect citizens of the State and Kitsap County. 

She is currently an elected Representative from the 23rd Legislative District, Position 1. 

Sherry was the Assistant Majority Whip and now is Vice-Chair of State Government and Tribal Affairs. She also serves on Transportation and Capital Budget, both Budget Committees. 

Sherry was appointed to the Puget Sound Partnership, representing the Democrat Caucus, in 2006.  The Partnership developed an action plan to be in place by 2020.
